Palo Alto, Calif. July 13, 2006 – AppStream, Inc., a leader in on-demand application deployment and management, today announced that Houston, Texas-based, St. Agnes Academy, has selected AppStream as their exclusive desktop software and license management solution provider. St. Agnes will use AppStream’s on demand streaming and virtualization technology to supply 850 students with critical Windows-compatible PC applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and electronic course books.
AppStream enables St. Agnes to save significantly on IT costs and resources, while greatly improving operational efficiency for application deployment and management – one of the most daunting IT undertakings for budget-constrained educational institutions. By using AppStream, the school believes they will save an estimated 1,600 hours in IT resources and approximately $140.00 per student in cost-savings. AppStream also eliminates the need to have multiple license management solutions and the staff necessary to operate them, further reducing IT costs.
Also, instead of being tethered to campus computer labs which are only open limited hours, students now can use PCs and laptops from any remote location to satisfy individual study habits, further promoting learning. Studies have also shown that students learn better when they have flexibility over their own schedule, which includes computer use for research, online learning courses and tests, and writing papers.
“We were looking for a streamlined, cost-effective and powerful desktop application management solution in order to reduce IT costs, improve security and enable students to work from any location, not just the computer labs,” said Jason Hyams, director of technology at St. Agnes. “After evaluating other premier streaming offerings, we selected AppStream as our sole application deployment and management vendor. Within one afternoon St. Agnes was able to evaluate AppStream technology using an online demonstration. By the end of the week, St. Agnes deployed applications to 850 students who were then immediately PC-ready.”
“We are delighted to support St. Agnes as they roll out this exciting IT project,” said Brad Rowland, vice president of marketing, AppStream. This announcement supports our vision of offering on-demand software delivery models that remove technology barriers to access and level the educational playing field. Our streaming technology continues to play a vital role in allowing schools to focus on their core charter – education.”
